Leonardo DiCaprio gave an Oscars climate-change speech that’ll give you chills

therevenant_000

A big hug to the great Leonardo di Caprio, also like me of Italian origin, with honor and pride, I rejoice in this success

When Leonardo Di Caprio accepted his Oscar for Best Actor Sunday night for “The Revenant,” he took the opportunity to highlight an inconvenient truth.

“Making ‘The Revenant’ was about man’s relationship to the natural world,” he said in his acceptance speech. “Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”

As DiCaprio pointed out, 2015 was the hottest year in recorded history. The average global temperature over land and sea was 1.62 degrees Fahrenheit (0.90 Celsius) above the 20th century average — 0.29 F (0.16 C) hotter than the previous record set in 2014.

“Our production needed to move to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow,” DiCaprio said.

As The Washington Post reported, the actor’s speech comes on the heals of a recent studywhich suggests climate change may be worse than we thought. The report found that humanity must keep our emissions of carbon dioxide to less than 1,000 billion tons if we’re to have a good chance of keep global warming below the widely accepted limit of 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

This is not the first time DiCaprio has taken a stand on climate change. In December, he addressed mayors from around the world during the Paris climate talks, calling for countries to divest from fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas, The New York Times reported.

“Now to get there, we must act. We must finally leave behind the inefficient technologies of another century and the business models that they have created,” he said, according to the Times.

In January, DiCaprio received an award at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, for his foundation, which focuses on climate change and protecting the world’s wildlife and ecosystems.

CASUAL COOL SUMMER STYLE INSPO // INTERMIX

I’m loving these easy summer style lookbook photos from Intermix… which I think are all on sale at the moment. I was going to PIN them all for style inspo and thought I’d share here instead. Just a few relaxed looks I want to recreate with my own wardrobe to get that casual-cool summer vibe I’m loving right now.

The Carrot Cake

carrot15

I’ve never really liked carrot cake. The concept of putting a relatively healthy vegetable inside a dessert just seems like a trick to get you to eat more vegetables. Add on to the fact that many versions contain raisins and the entire concept comes across as a cruel joke. However, as my tastes have matured, I’ve grown to appreciate the subtle sweet flavor of this Cook’s Illustrated recipe, combined with a great tangy frosting. And since I’ve never been a fan of nuts in my desserts, I decided to decorate with edible flowers instead.

DOLCE & GABBANA BEAUTY: SPRING 2015

IMG_1458_zps0pgyyugt

The spring makeup trend, according to Dolce & Gabbana, is feminine and playful – just choose to accentuate the eyes or lips! I’ve styled two looks with these four products. The left has a stronger eye to pair with nude lips, and the right is pared down to play up the bright pink lips. Below is a simple how-to:

Schermata 2015-04-26 alle 23.13.59

Tender” Eyeshadow Quad – beautiful, delicate lilac and blush tones.

The colors are buildable and semi-sheer. I’m glad there are two matte colors, as my eye shape can’t handle glittery eyeshadow (it makes my eyelids look like fish scales). The other two colors have a satin texture with a pretty, pearl sheen.

1) Apply the darkest color (lilac) on outer eyelid.
2) Dab the blush/taupe color near the inner eyelid.
3) Blend the shimmery pink/blush color into the middle of eyelid.
4) Highlight with the shimmery cream color below the eyebrow bone and inner corners of eyes.

Shimmer” Glow Illuminating Powder – lovely subtle glow in a dusty rose hue.

Spring is all about illuminating the skin! This powder is light, and contrary to the name, it’s not “shimmery” in the traditional sense, and that’s what I love about it. Rather, the powder brightens up the skin with a more natural glow. Sweep upward above the cheekbones, and brush along the bridge of the nose.

WHEN YOU SUDDENLY WANT TO CUT BANGSE

59878673fd18868cc3e4af0f42e7a886
very now and again i think about cutting my bangs, as you probably do if you are a woman and don’t have bangs. Because that’s what we do, right?

I love the idea of bangs but then I always remember the upkeep and the maintenance and the styling and the way the wind blows them straight up when you walk into it and that sometimes they make your forehead break out and the way blonde bangs look singed at the ends sometimes and the way it sucks so bad when you’re growing them out… and all of those things deter me from doing it every single time.

But I’m bored with my hair and it’s been the same for almost a decade now and I’m just looking for a new look. I’m feeling a bit freer lately and with emotional change always comes a hair change, right? So I guess I’ve been stuck for nearly a decade too, but I’m feeling less sticky now and ready for a new look. It’s just hair, anyway, and I always thought when I “got older” I’d cut my bangs to disguise the lines on my forehead a little bit and add softness to my face. And as I see these lines set in more deeply each day and I ponder Botox or fillers to “fix my face” I remember that those lines are the sum of my experiences and they’re all mine… AND THAT IT’S POISON, so that freaks me out.

So yeah, I’m thinking about bangs, or fringe and these are some of my favorite fringy banging looks below.. and yes, most of them are blonde because I am blonde and generally I think brunettes look better with bangs, so my inspiration looks are kind of specific. Or not.

STREET STYLE TIP OF THE DAY: THE WINTER OVERCOAST

Stif there’s one person who’s had the biggest influence on my style, it’s my mom. Over the years she’s dispensed many valuable pieces of advice and sartorial anecdotes to guide me as I’ve grown into my own sense of dressing. One particular thing that has always stuck with me, particularly in the winter months, is that you’ll never regret investing in coats-and every woman should have a wardrobe of coats. Much like a great pair of shoes, a coat can make any outfit look much more pulled-together and sophisticated.

Enter: The winter overcoat. I have a few coats to get me through these freezing New York City winters, but I’ve never been truly obsessed with any of them. (It’s kind of hard to swoon over down, no?) All through the fall, I craved an update and an addition to my cold weather wardrobe.

Back in October I stopped by the…
