SEPTEMBER IN LA: THE CITY’S BACK, AND SO AM I

SEPTEMBER IN LA

Hey loves, it’s Sara.

September always feels like hitting refresh — summer fades, LA wakes up, and everything speeds up again. Seemed like the perfect moment to bring this blog back. I know, I’ve been quiet here (totally guilty ). Truth is, I’d rather be out chasing stories, talking to designers, sneaking into shows, dancing at parties, catching vibes. But right now, I’m back in the mood to write — so here we go.

Los Angeles in September is buzzing. Today there’s the Vintage Bazaar in Burbank (I can never resist hunting for one-of-a-kind finds), Downtown’s Fashion District is teasing fall with pop-ups, and galleries are opening new shows on sustainability and what’s next in art. This city honestly never gives you a chance to get bored.

And across the country, it’s New York Fashion Week. Ralph Lauren set the tone with pure elegance, Michael Kors went soft and romantic, and Public School came back with that edge we’ve all missed. I couldn’t make it to NYC this year — work kept me in LA — but I’m glued to every update.

And it’s just the start: London, Milan, Paris are next, and then in January it’s my forever favorite, Pitti Uomo in Florence. I love how many Americans are obsessed with it — it’s the ultimate deep dive into menswear.

What excites me right now is the wave of change: new creative directors, bold ideas, fresh experiments. I’m here for it — as long as the DNA of the brands stays intact. Fashion should grow, not lose its soul.

So yes, I’m writing again. This blog’s gonna be a mix of my LA life, global fashion moments, and little discoveries I can’t keep to myself. September feels like the perfect first chapter.

ANNA SUI: POP RENAISSANCE, LIGHTNESS, JOY

NYFW

ANNA SUI

Anna Sui relives the legendary 60s with the carefree atmosphere and the music of flower children, of a cultural and musical renaissance that gave birth to the rebirth of humanity in those years. Even today the message is clear, there is a desire to rediscover the emotion of life, freedom and lightheartedness.

Carefully chosen pop-paisley dresses and great picnic dresses worn with matching printed tights. All with a touch of whimsy and extravagance that he associates with Sui – from the faux fur coat with a big cat print and hat paired with bright psychedelic Navajo coats.

The cast dances in front of a fabulous backdrop of circus fair stars and planets, painted by Sarah Oliphant, to the tune of George Harrison’s sitar-infused Flower Power pop soundtrack.

When it gets dark, Sui’s mermaids hit nightclubs in micro-sequined trouser suits or flirty lace dresses, trimmed with river gambler laces.

“As we wait” on pause “for the new world to emerge from this pandemic, my mind is a whirlwind of vibrant worldviews right in front of us – I can’t stop thinking about that” black and white in color ” Moment. The limbo we live in will become psychedelic, exuberant with colors and patterns: it will be Phantasmadelic! “Enthused Sui in his notes on the program.

Aided by an excellent cast of a quintet of young veterans – Hanne Gaby Odiele, Lara Park, Issa Lish, Dilone and the perfectly sulky Cristina Piccone – all perfectly composed by Pat McGrath.

Sui easily had one of the best collections and videos in last season’s largely virtual New York fashion season in September. She just had another one in the current fashion week.

TARTAN & CO

TARTAN & CO

Sorry for the easy irony .. but writing about tartan , the link ” Scottish – kilt – urban legend ” it has been too easy … please grant it ! But back serious and throw headlong into the theme of the day that goes well with the Christmas atmosphere that now you can breathe everywhere.Well…yes…we entered totally into the Christmas mood !

So, how not to talk about the much loved Tartan?! More than established season’s evergereen (as in summer are the stripes), during the winter time we become “tartan addicted” … because a tartan accessory, leaning in some corner of the house, makes immediately “Christmas time” and warms the atmosphere!

Tartan was born in the scottish Highland in 1815, with the registration of “clan tartans”, officially becoming “fabric of recognition” and distinctive sign of belonging to different clans. With its playful and colorful weave of fine threads, the tartan fabric expatriate easily winning the tastes of many. Always fashionable, from clothing to home, we find it declined in a variety of shapes, materials and colors, from the classic plaid, to the ceramics.

FRIENDS AT THE TABLE

During the summer, days are filled with vacations, day trips, beach hangouts, and spontaneous get togethers that last into the wee hours of the night. With holidays and warm weather, there are sure to be planned soirees, but there are also many opportunities to throw together a last minute affair and spend a Saturday catching up with friends over a gorgeous table scape in the afternoon breeze.

If you’re not usually the party host, darling glassware, adorable straws and centerpieces may not currently be in your possession, but with a few creative ideas you can whip together the perfect setting to cross one of your summer bucket list items off immediately.  Below are a few tips on how to set the stage for an afternoon BBQ or luncheon with some of your besties on a whim.

Last-Minute-Tablescape-Ideas

Mix and Match – We all wish our lives looked like a Pinterestboard, but sometimes that’s not always doable. Luckily, some of the most beautiful settings are an eclectic mix of styles. So when gathering the necessary items for your party–dishes, napkins, glasses and place matts– think of what you already own and how you can mix patterns and textures to make an inviting and fun tablescape.

Centerpiece

Make the Centerpiece Count – Even if you’re using small white plates from your kitchen (great for portion control thanks to the small red plate illusion), your table doesn’t need to look boring. Lining the center with candles and decorative glass will not only give the table a bohemian feel, the candles will also be functional for when the sun begins to set. The trick that changes everything–invest in a pretty floral garland to line down the center of the table instead of a runner. It will fill any bare space, scream summer and add feminine flair to any setting. No matter the style, bold stripes, subtle pinks or an earthy boho mix the flowers will tie everything together. Plus, a floral garland can be saved and used for many DIY projects in the future.

Silverware Place Setting

It’s All About Accents – Sure you could just pull out your cutlery, place some dishes around and say let’s party, but your guests will love it if you go the extra mile and add subtle accents to the place settings. Little twine bows around the silverware don’t draw a lot of attention, but give them a polished girly finish that contrasts nicely against a vibrant rolled napkin. Adding fun colored strays also ties more colors from the table together. And there you have it, you’ll be the hottest host around within no time!

For me, movie nights are a way to bring friends together without a lot of fuss, to open up my home in the comfiest and most casual of ways. Besides a white sheet and a projector, you really only need a few cozy accoutrement to make the evening complete: rugs and blankets to lounge on, poufs, pillows, citronella candles, a roaring fire, big bowls of popcorn, and some good wine. Find these accessories around your house and drag them out into the yard (or up to an apartment rooftop), or click through these images to shop our favorite party picks!
